Chemistry is
not the favorite subject of most people. However, it is the main
killer of fish, so a basic knowledge of water chemistry and methods for
controlling it will go a long ways towards making your fish keeping experience
more of a work of beauty and art and less like a fertilizer generator.
Although we have a great deal of
knowledge in our club about pond chemistry and its relationship with koi,
the best source of water quality information that I know of is Norm Meck
of the Koi Club of San Diego. Mr. Meck has assembled an impressive
array of articles that cover most known issues with pond chemistry and
has provided them for review on the koi Club San Diego web site.
P.S. These articles are also available
from the Koi Club of San Diego in a booklet form which is a very handy
reference guide. Details are available on their web site.
