All concrete except the pond wall
footing was mixed on the spot with the electric mixer. We used a
concrete mix of 3 parts washed rock, 2 parts construction sand, 1 part
portland cement, and about enough water to get it to just flow a bit.
The rock and sand we had delivered from a local quarry. Its important
to let them know that you are using it for concrete since all the parts
need to be washed of organic matter or else the concrete won't set well.
This method of mixing works well and allows you to make as little as you
want whenever you need it. However, if you are going to do a pour
of 2 yards or more, I'd seriously suggest that you have a truck deliver
it premixed. The pump room slab was about 1 yard and it took all
evening to pour.
