After a year or more of planning,
the day of digging!!! We rented a Case 580 for the job. I had
not driven one before so it was a learning experience. It took an
hour or so before I could actually dig something with it and after a few
more hours I was reasonably proficient. This is a good sized pond
and I moved the hillside back about ten feet. It ended up taking
two days of rental to get the entire excavation done. I probably
would have got it done faster and better if I'd hired an excavator professional
to do this. However, the three different guys I called were either
never home, too busy, or didn't show up for the bidding. So I just
rented the damn thing. It was worth it just to play with the thing
and the job got done to boot!
